Named after the American Civil War Colonel, Robert Gould Shaw, who commanded the first African American regiment in the US Army in 1863 and is the namesake of the Shaw neighborhood, The Colonel is meant to honor the significance of the unit's contributions to our nation. The original structure dates back to the turn of the century, though the renovations are forward thinking, like the building's namesake. Residents will appreciate the style and surroundings, the attention to detail, and the way in which the building commands a presence in this unique DC neighborhood. The Colonel has award winning design, restaurants Esptia and All Purpose Pizza directly below the building and everything you need within walking distance.

For Colonel
The Colonel is a new building that joins several historic spaces with modern finishes & appliances. Awesome staff, quiet building in a growing corner of the Shaw neighborhood. The Colonel is an excellent place for pet owners - they were flexible with our multiple pets, and unlike other pet friendly apartments in the area that I've read about, the premises is kept very clean. The building is super close to the metro and the neighborhood is quiet, but still has some nightlife. If you're looking for some great restaurants, coffee shops, and bars, they can be found just down the block. As the building is brand new, there have been some unexpected maintenance issues, but staff has been apologetic & responsive. All in all a great place!

I've been living in the Colonel for a year now and am constantly disappointed by the so-called "amenities" that were promised to me upon signing my lease. The front-door concierge is so rarely at the front desk that I am never able to pick up my packages which are locked away in a mailroom. The onsite repair people close maintenance requests without even completing the job, and when they do "fix" something it's done for the lowest possible cost with the minimal labor required. The rooftop seemed luxurious and modern when I toured, but the firepit and TV havent worked for most of my time in the building. The walls and floors are paper thin and the building blames tenants for noisiness rather than the poor infrastructure. The management NEVER returns emails in a timely manner, and has been less than accomodating. To say that I am disappointed in this building is a HUGE understatement. DO NOT waste your money on this place!

This is my first time living on my own and I couldn't have picked a better spot. I love my apartment. Everything about it is beautiful, the kitchen the bathroom. I have a studio with super closet space (3 extra wide w/ double doors!). The front desk delivers my packages to my apt, and there's a dry cleaning service and free coffee 24/7 in the lobby. Great restaurants, Union Market is super cool, also a Giant nearby. Also some great boutique fitness studios when you're done feasting on the great eats within the block. I super recommend, and have no plans to move. Considering swapping to a 1 bedroom, we'll see.

I've lived at the Colonel over 2 years and have been constantly disappointed with management . I love my unit and the building is fine, minus the front gate that is stupidly heavy and hard to open. However, maintenance requests are slow to be fixed and sometimes not fixed at all. Lease renewal is a major hassle every year and management seems surprised when you read it and ask questions. Front desk workers (that are from management) are never around or seem annoyed that you're bothering them to get your packages. The grills are the only valuable amenity, others amenities don't work or require a building employee to work them, but again, they're never around. Trash rooms are overflowing with recycling and stink up the hallway. The parking garage has frequent break-ins and vandalism. The list of complaints is long, don't live here, it's not worth the high rent.

Unfortunately, living at The Colonel used to be a pleasant experience. However, the quality of customer service has completely plummeted, and the company seems to have little concern over the matter. Management is proven to be unreliable and maintenance unresponsive. Priority requests are often neglected. Disappointing treatment of tenants overall. If you wanted to be treated as a human, go somewhere else.
